Kyoto is a city of 1.5M people with fantastic, traditional Buddhist temples scattered about. Besides a couple of sites that require a train ticket (Arashiyama & Fushimi Inari Taisha) everything else is extremely walkable.
Kyoto is a very dreamy town, with fantastic restaurants tucked away, fabulous coffee and matcha shops, and some of the best temples in the world.
